Jordi Ribas Ros comes from a family with a long tradition in woodworking. In Argentina he learned the trade at a very young age in his father’s workshop, who continued the tradition started by his godfather in Sta. Margalida (Mallorca).
In 1986 he took charge of the family’s business, but learned that taking care of the company meant
that he was getting away from what he enjoyed the most: working with wood..
In 1994 he moved to Mallorca and became in contact with an unexpected element: tradition and
cultural heritage.
In Mallorca he slowly discovered similarities between objects and shapes, and the work that his
grandfather did in Argentina, as well as the reasons why the work was done in a certain way and
with certain materials. Then, he also became aware of the accelerated industrialization of this last
years and how it condemned this heritage to be forgotten.
Following that he studied Gaudí’s work, which impressed him; to this day it has been crucial for his
way of understanding shapes. He discovered, as well, the symbology and its mysteries that were
present in all of his designs: from his craftwork to the architecture in cathedrals.
In 1996 he opened a small workshop in the Colonia de *St. Pere with a clear purpose: to recover the traditional techniques and materials of the trade to innovate and find an alternative in the relationship that modern man has with wood and with work in general.
Since then until today he has worked in his workshop designing and manufacturing all kinds of objects with wood: closures, structural elements (beams, ladders…), furniture of all kinds, decorative objects, utensils…
